.
  • Only a kosher Mezuzah scroll, written in parchment fulfills the mitzvah (commandment) of having a Mezuzah on the house doorpost.

  • The case can be as simple or as fancy as one desires, however the quality of the scroll is the real beauty of the Mezuzah.

  • A Mezuzah on the exterior door is exposed to varied weather conditions, and therefore vulnerable to damage. A damaged Mezuzah might become “unkosher” and will require replacing.

  • Mezuzahs are available in Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Arizal traditions.

  • A Mezuzah makes an ideal housewarming present.

  • Many people give a Mezuzah as a baby gift to be affixed to the doorpost of the newborn’s nursery.

  • Affixing a Mezuzah for the first time requires a bracha (blessing) and is cause for a LeChaim

“The Mezuzah scroll contains the affirmation of faith in one G-d – ‘Shema Yisrael HaShem Elokaynu HaShem Echad’. The letter Ayin in the word shema, and the letter Daled in the word echad are written especially large.  Together they spell the word ‘Ayd’ (witness).  So what is it that we witness in the Shema?  Perhaps by witnessing the amazing existence of life and the universe, we are ‘seeing’ the ‘fingerprint’ of G-d’s touch.”
